These recipes work the best for campground camping. The snack recipes would work well to make ahead and take with you while hiking, but these recipes work the best when you have a cooler and a campsite to cook at.
A lot of the recipes are accidentally gluten free but most can easily be made gluten free by using gluten free substitutes: buns, tortillas, pastas and using beans instead of plant based meats. The recipes are not oil free, but you can easily omit oil by using water instead of oil to cook with. Oil is mostly used to prevent food sticking to the pan. The recipe book is a good mix of whole foods recipes and recipes that include some vegan cheese and vegan meats.
Most of the recipes are healthy, but since we're camping, there are some indulgent vegan recipes in there as well like pizza, nachos and cupcakes. This is not a weight loss book. It's intended for people who want easy, delicious plant based meals while camping, who don't mind a few indulgences here and there.
Absolutely not. Wherever you can find grains, vegetables, fruits and vegetables is where you can shop. Most grocery stores sell plant based milks, tofu and a handful of vegan meat alternatives now. Most of the recipes use easy to find ingredients, though
These recipes can be made with a simple camping stove, or with the campfire. If you're going to be cooking in the fire, you will need a cast iron pan (preferably with a lid) and some heavy duty fire gloves. If you're cooking over the fire, you will need a fire grate.
