I run the blog and YouTube channel Damn Tasty Vegan where I share easy vegan recipe and lifestyle tips.

I have many wonderful memories taking camping trips in northern Michigan (we call it 'going up north') every summer as a kid.

Then reality set in as an adult when I realized how annoying and overwhelming packing and meal planning for a camping trip was.

Over time, I made it a lot easier by collecting easy, one pot recipes for our camping trips. Now each time we take a trip, I just make a meal plan based on these recipes and it saves me a ton of time.

I've also saved my packing list every year so that I don't have to think about it when the time rolls around. I just check everything off the list.

DO THESE RECIPES WORK WELL FOR BACK PACK CAMPING?

These recipes work the best for campground camping. The snack recipes would work well to make ahead and take with you while hiking, but these recipes work the best when you have a cooler and a campsite to cook at.


ARE THE RECIPES GLUTEN FREE?

A lot of the recipes are accidentally gluten free but most can easily be made gluten free by using gluten free substitutes: buns, tortillas, pastas and using beans instead of plant based meats.


ARE THE RECIPES HEALTHY?

Most of the recipes are healthy, but since we're camping, there are some indulgent vegan recipes in there as well like pizza, nachos and cupcakes.


DO I NEED TO SHOP AT A SPECIALTY GROCERY STORE?

Absolutely not. Wherever you can find grains, vegetables, fruits and vegetables is where you can shop. Most grocery stores sell plant based milks, tofu and a handful of vegan meat alternatives now. Most of the recipes use easy to find ingredients, though


WHAT COOKING TOOLS WILL I NEED

These recipes can be made with a simple camping stove, or with the campfire. If you're going to be cooking in the fire, you will need a cast iron pan (preferably with a lid) and some heavy duty fire gloves. If you're cooking over the fire, you will need a fire grate.
